Duke Announces Status of Jayson Tatum Injury
Freshman forward Jayson Tatum suffered a foot injury during practice earlier this week but is not expected to be out long.
Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski recently provided an update on Jayson Tatum’s foot injury, and it’s very fortunate news for Blue Devils fans. The star freshman suffered a left foot sprain in practice on Tuesday and is expected to be back in less than two weeks.
Tatum will play a huge role for the Blue Devils this season, presumably starting at small forward to replace NBA lottery pick Brandon Ingram. The 6-8 freshman led the Blue/White exhibition game in scoring with 18 points during Countdown to Craziness and comes in with very high expectations after winning national Gatorade Athlete of the Year and was ranked one of the top players NCAA coaches most want on their team. Coach K released a statement during ACC Media Day, saying:
“This is the best possible news. It is a manageable injury that will not impact Jayson long-term. We look forward to having him back very soon.”
The 5-star freshman will not play in the Blue Devils’ first exhibition game today against Virginia State and most likely next week’s exhibition as well. He will continue to have his foot evaluated next week and hopefully be ready to play in the first game of the regular season against Marist on November 11.
