Duke's Harry Giles, possible No. 1 pick in 2017 NBA Draft, undergoes knee surgery
Harry Giles' start to what presumably will be his only year at Duke before entering the NBA Draft is off to a rough start.
The 6-foot-11 center, who was the No. 1 prospect in America in the Class of 2016 and is a possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, underwent a left knee arthroscopy Monday.
The surgery — which was presumably a "clean up" — is expected to keep him out for six weeks.
Giles has torn the ACLs in both of his knees — a tear in his right knee kept him from playing his senior season at prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy.
“We’re very pleased with the outcome of today’s procedure,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a release. “This is the right step for Harry at the moment as it will help him be 100 percent going forward. Harry has done a tremendous job in rehabilitation over the last year and I’m sure he’ll continue to do the same after this procedure.”
Giles is likely to be considered the top big man in the 2017 NBA Draft class, should he leave Duke after this season, as is expected. He's in the running for the No. 1 overall pick with point guards Markelle Fultz of Washington and Dennis Smith of North Carolina State.
