English scores 24; Iona wins 6th straight over Rider, 67-58

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) A.J. English scored 24 points and distributed seven assists as Iona won its 25th consecutive home game and fifth straight to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 67-58 win over Rider Thursday night.

Iona's Isaiah Williams knocked down a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer to send the teams into intermission tied, 29-29.

English scored eight points in the final 10 minutes of the game as Iona pulled away. Williams and Aaron Rountree each converted a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds to preserve the win.

Williams and Jordan Washington finished with 15 and 11 points for Iona (8-6, 5-0 MAAC).

Xavier Lundy scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Rider, with Kahlil Thomas adding 11 points and 11 boards.

Iona now owns a six-game win streak against the Broncs, who have not won in New Rochelle since the 2010-11 season.
