Five-Star Point Guard Lists Duke Basketball in Top Five

Duke Basketball 2017 recruiting target Trevon Duval recently announced his top five schools and could fill a position of need for the Blue Devils.

Duke Men’s Basketball is set to bring in another highly rated recruiting class next season with PF/C Wendell Carter, SG Gary Trent, and SG Alex O’Connell already signed to the 2017 class. However, the Blue Devils are still looking to fill the void at point guard that’s been left since the transfer of Derryck Thornton last season.

Duke has done a great job of playing point guard by committee so far this season, with Frank Jackson, Luke Kennard, Matt Jones, Grayson Allen, and Jayson Tatum (and Amile Jefferson?) all handling play-making duties for the offense. However, Mike Krzyzewski is has been targeting the next Blue Devil point guard in the 2017 recruiting class.

Five-star 2017 point guard Trevon Duval is one of the most talented prospects in the country, and is one of the main players Duke is targeting to take over at point guard next season. The 6-3 guard is a quick and athletic ball-handler who is a talented passer and finisher around the rim. He was recently named MVP of the National High School Hoops Festival. Duval recently announced his top five schools, and is considering Duke, Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, and Seton Hall. He had this to say about the recruiting pitch from the Blue Devils:

“They need a point guard so that sort of thing they’re really pitching to me that I can come in and run the show as a point guard.”

Teams will have to wait until the spring signing period for Duval’s college decision, and he has already announced his intentions to be one-and-done. Trevon Duval would be able to come in immediately and make an impact for the Blue Devils if he commits next season with Grayson Allen and Matt Jones leaving as well as the potential early departures of Frank Jackson and Luke Kennard to the NBA.
