Florida Atlantic overtakes Ave Maria 72-58

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) Adonis Filer scored 17 points, sinking 7 of 8 from the free throw line, to lead Florida Atlantic past Ave Maria for a 72-58 win Thursday night.

C.J. Turman and Jackson Trapp added 12 points apiece and Jesse Hill had 11 for FAU (2-5), which hit 56 percent of its 45 shots from the field and enjoyed a 34-18 rebounding advantage. Filer was 5 for 10 from the floor and had six rebounds.

Ave Maria, an NAIA program, trailed most of the game but edged into the lead early in the second half with a 15-5 run capped by Eric Richardson's 3-pointer to make it 45-41. But the Owls responded with an 11-2 burst that included a 3-pointer from Jeantal Cylla to retake the lead and continued to pull away down the stretch.

Julian Adams paced Ave Maria with 20 points and Nate Krimsky and Exor Torres added 11.
