LOS ANGELES (AP) Tyus Edney has been promoted to assistant under UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford.
He replaces Ed Schilling, who was hired at Indiana last week after four years in Westwood.
Edney has spent the last seven years as the Bruins' director of operations. He was a guard at UCLA from 1992-95, helping the Bruins win the 1995 national championship. Edney is best known for driving the length of the court in 4.8 seconds to hit a game-winning layup in a second-round win over Missouri.
Edney graduated from UCLA in 1997. He played in the NBA for Sacramento, Boston and Indiana before spending 11 years playing in Europe.
