Forte, Oklahoma State beat UT Martin 91-57
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Phil Forte shined in limited minutes during his 100th game with Oklahoma State.
Forte scored 24 points and Oklahoma State opened its season with a dominating 91-57 win over UT Martin on Friday night.
Forte, usually a 3-point specialist, repeatedly got to the basket and made 10 of 11 free throws.
Chris Olivier had 14 points for Oklahoma State in his debut and Leyton Hammonds added 10. Jeff Newberry had seven points, eight rebounds and four blocks. The Cowboys made 33 of 59 field goals (56 percent) and held UT Martin to 38 percent shooting.
Juwan Evans, a high school McDonlad's All American, played 21 minutes in his first collegiate game. The Dallas native had seven points and four assists.
''He's a guy that we expect big things from,'' Forte said of Evans. ''He's only going to get better as the season goes on. We're excited to see what he can do.''
Oklahoma outscored UT Martin 51-26 in the second half. Forte scored eight straight points during the Cowboys' 16-2 run midway through the second half to pull away.
Jacolby Mobley scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers, for UT Martin. Twymond Howard had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Seven minutes into the game, Tavarius Shine fell to the floor clutching his right shoulder. He did not return to the floor after being helped off. He came back to the bench with his arm in a sling and an ice pack on the shoulder.
''It's a tough blow,'' OSU coach Travis Ford said. ''He has been playing really well for us. You're talking about a 6-foot-5, 6-foot-6 guard who can play. . We need him back. He is a very, very important part of our basketball team.''

ON THE RISE
Olivier, a senior who transferred to OSU from Eastern Illinois, could prove to be a force for the Cowboys down low. The Chicago native had a solid showing in his first game as a Cowboy. Olivier made 7 of 8 shots and showed some good post moves.

Oklahoma State: Forte played in his 100th game as a Cowboy. ... Oklahoma State wore blue Nike N7 uniforms in support of Native American Heritage Month and won their 40th straight victory in a home opener.
UT Martin: The Skyhawks last season-opening road win was in 2002 when they defeated Saint Louis 63-58. Senior Myles Taylor needed just six points to become the fifth-leading scorer in program history, but he fouled out with only four points.
