Freshman scores 30 in first start for Kennesaw State in win (Feb 09, 2017)

DELAND, Fla. (AP) Freshman guard James Scott made his first start and scored a career-high 30 points, Aubrey Williams added 20 points and 10 rebounds and Kennesaw State defeated Stetson 92-85 on Thursday night.

With leading scorer Kendrick Ray out because of illness, Scott stepped up, going 11 of 19 from the floor and 9 of 11 from the line.

Nick Masterson scored 14 points and Tyler Hooker 11 for the Owls (12-14, 6-4 Atlantic Sun), whose dozen victories are the most since the 2009-10 season.

Divine Myles scored 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting for the Hatters (10-17, 2-8).

Williams scored 17 points and Scott 16 in the first half when the Owls took a 43-31 lead.

The Owls led by 19 early in the second half but the Hatters rallied and the game was tied at 76-all with three minutes remaining. The Hatters got within a point with 7:48 left. But the Owls outscored Stetson 16-9 the rest of the way, with Williams scoring seven points.
