Frye, Carpenter lead Nicholls State past Loyola (NO) 89-74

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Ja'Dante Frye poured in 22 points and T.J. Carpenter add another 19 points and Nicholls State held off NAIA in-state rival Loyola -New Orleans, 89-74 on Saturday.

Coming off a win over Division III Louisiana College, Nicholls State (2-3) built an eight-point lead by intermission and extended its record in the series to 15-2. The Colonels have not lost to Loyola-New Orleans since 1970.

Liam Thomas scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Nicholls State, which shot 50.8 percent from the field (31 of 61), including 8 of 27 (29.6 percent) from distance.

The Wolfpack got 28 points from Jalen Gray and 22 from Johnny Gray Jr. while shooting 40.9 percent from the field (27 of 66) and 5 of 19 (26.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

The Wolfpack pulled down 14 offensive rebounds in the game and collected 13 steals.
