FSU Women's Basketball Weeks In Review: December 15th-28th

Here’s a recap of the last two weeks for FSU women’s basketball and a look ahead to what the next week has in store for the Lady ‘Noles.

If you thought things were going to die down for the Lady ‘Noles of FSU, think again. Head coach Sue Semrau has her team ranked in the top 10 nationally and looking like they have no signs of backing down as the team finished the fall semester of their schedule over the last two weeks.

After making quick work of their Atlantic Sun and Southern Conference opponents over the past two weeks, Florida State now turns their attention to Atlantic Coast Conference play – starting with a hated rival not just in the conference, but also the Sunshine State.

Lets take a look at what the last two weeks were like for FSU women’s basketball and what the upcoming week will be like.

Week in Review

With finals behind them, the Lady ‘Noles gave their first two opponents of winter break a quick lesson on how to play the sport. It started on the 19th, when Florida State welcomed the North Florida Ospreys to town.

The Lady ‘Noles jumped out to a 35 point halftime lead and – led by 22 points from Leticia Romero and 14 each from Imani Wright and Ivey Slaughter – coasted to a 95-39 victory, keeping their record a perfect 7-0 all time against UNF.

Two days later, Florida State traveled to Macon, Georgia for a meeting with the Mercer Bears. Again, this one would be over by halftime as the Lady ‘Noles took a 36 point lead into the locker room and went on to a 83-40 win. Romero led all scorers with 17 points while Slaughter added 13 as Florida State got their seventh straight win over the Bears.

A Look Ahead

With just one non-conference game left in February against Texas, the rest of the regular season slate will consist of teams from the ACC. It all starts Thursday when the Lady ‘Noles will be in Miami for a meeting with the rival Hurricanes. FSU has won nine of the last 11 meetings dating back to the 2012-13 season, but Miami got the victory in last year’s ACC tournament. If you’re in South Florida for the Orange Bowl, head over the UM campus and support the Lady ‘Noles!

Florida State will then return home on Monday for the home conference opener against N.C. State, winning the last two meeting between the schools after losing three of the previous four.
