Funk's 3 lifts Army over Marist 73-69 in opener
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Tommy Funk's 3-pointer with four seconds to play lifted Army over Marist 73-69 in Tuesday night's season opener.
Trailing 33-27 at halftime, Marist rallied to a 63-59 lead on Luke Nedrow's layup with 4:08 left, but Jordan Fox hit a 3 and Matt Wilson scored six straight to give the Black Knights a 68-67 edge with 1:14 to go. Brian Parker's jumper tied it a 69, but Funk hit his 3 on the next possession and David Knudsen's 3 with 2 seconds left missed.
Wilson scored 24 points, Fox had 14 with four 3s and Funk finished with 12 points and five assists for the Black Knights, who made 20 of 29 free throws and shot 43 percent from the field.
Senior Brian Parker scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Red Foxes, who return all five starters and are led by John Dunne, hired as coach on April 3. Ryan Funk added 10 points.
