Ga. Southern avenges earlier loss, beats Florida Gulf Coast (Dec 13, 2016)

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) Ike Smith, Tookie Brown and Mike Hughes combined for 43 points as Georgia Southern pulled away from Florida Gulf Coast for a 72-59 win on Tuesday night.

Georgia Southern (5-5) snapped Florida Gulf Coast's six-game win streak and avenged an 85-82 loss 10 days earlier.

Smith had 16 points and seven rebounds. Brown was 6 of 10 from the floor for 15 points and Hughes added 12 points with four assists.

The Eagles took the lead when B.J. Gladden drilled a 3 with 14:13 left in the first half and never trailed again. They led 34-25 at the break.

Florida Gulf Coast shot 57 percent or better over its last four games, but was held to 39.2 percent (20-51) by the Eagles. Georgia Southern was 25-of-59 (42.4 percent).

Zach Johnson and Brandon Goodwin had 13 points apiece for Florida Gulf Coasts (7-4).
