Georgia Southern uses 16-2 run to down Pepperdine 88-78
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Tookie Brown scored 21 points and had five assists and Georgia Southern beat Pepperdine 88-78 on Saturday night in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase.
Pepperdine led 46-45 at halftime before Kessler Edwards' jump shot capped a 6-0 run by the Waves to open the second half. Darnell Dunn's bucket with 14:14 left extended the Waves' lead to 63-54. Georgia Southern (3-0) took control with a 16-2 run and led 70-65 with a pair of free throws by Brown and led for the duration.
Ike Smith scored 16 points with six rebounds, Calvin Wishart scored 14, David-Lee Jones Jr., 12 and Montae Glenn, 10 and eight rebounds. The Eagles finished 30-of-51 shooting (58.8 percent) which helped them overcome 19 personal fouls and 19 turnovers. For its part, Pepperdine committed 23 fouls and turned it over 17 times.
Colbey Ross led the Waves with 25 points, Kameron Edwards had 15 points and nine rebounds, Dunn made all six of his shots for 15 points and Kessler Edwards scored 13.
