One of the most experienced players for Georgia Tech basketball is suspended for four games.

Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse for Georgia Tech, Josh Pastner is dealing with off-the-court issues regarding the Yellow Jackets’ starting point guard.

Senior guard Josh Heath has been suspended for four games, two exhibition match-ups and the first two regular season games, due to a violation of team rules. The Yellow Jackets open at home against Tennessee Tech on November 11 and Southern on November 14.

Normally, this wouldn’t be much of a big deal given that Georgia Tech is playing two buy-games to open the year. However, GT lost their top four scorers from last season and have one of the least talented team’s in all of the Power Five conferences. The Yellow Jackets will be in the mix for last place in the ACC, along with Boston College and Wake Forest.

More from Busting Brackets

Heath only averaged 2.7 points, shot below 30 percent from beyond the arc, shot 38 percent from the field overall and played less than 20 minutes per night last season. But the 6’2″ native of Tampa, FL is one of the most experienced players on the roster and is a solid ball control point guard.

Last year, Heath dished out 2.8 assists and turned the ball over only 0.9 turnovers per game. He’s not much of a scorer, instead, initiating the offense and finding his open teammates.

The only bright side to this suspension is the fact that Georgia Tech will likely give more minutes to freshman point guard Justin Moore. While the Yellow Jackets will certainly be searching for victories this season, the main goal of the 2016-17 campaign is to develop their younger players for the future.

Even though Moore is labeled as just a two-star recruit, according to ESPN, his size and length make him an intriguing prospect with high upside. With Heath out, Moore will receive quality time during both exhibition games and could possibly start in the first two regular season outings (if not he’ll play a heavy role off the bench).

When Heath does return, he’ll help make up a starting lineup that is projected to include Tadric Jackson, Ben Lammers, Quinton Stephens and Eastern Michigan graduate transfer Jodan Price. Regardless, the Yellow Jackets and their fans are in for a long 2016-17 season that could very well result in single digit wins and a bottom of the barrel finish in the brutal ACC.
