Gibson returns to lead North Texas past Angelo State 89-55
DENTON, Texas (AP) — Redshirt freshman Umoja Gibson scored 32 points on 10-of-14 shooting, returning to the court nearly a year after breaking his leg in a game against Nebraska, and North Texas drilled Division II-member Angelo State 89-55 on Tuesday night.
Gibson buried 7 of 11 shots from 3-point range in 24 minutes of action, scoring 25 points after intermission. DJ Draper hit five 3-pointers and scored 19, while Zachary Simmons scored 10 and Ryan Woolridge tallied 10 assists for the Mean Green.
Ronald Bell paced the Rams with 18 points. Daron Mims had 17 points and Antonio Singleton scored 12.
North Texas sank 15 of its 28 first-half shots and raced out to a 44-24 halftime lead. The Mean Green scored 18 points off Angelo State turnovers and used 18 offensive rebounds to score 18 second-chance points.
