Good VCU fan cradles sleeping child while still enjoying the NCAA tournament

Northwestern’s historic win over Vanderbilt provided one of the most thrilling moments of the opening day of the NCAA tournament, but the excitement had apparently worn off by the end of the third West Regional game in Salt Lake City Thursday — at least for one young VCU fan.

During the second half of the 10th-seeded Rams' 85-77 loss to No. 7 seed St. Mary’s, TV cameras caught a VCU fan in a horned hat chanting alongside the Rams faithful.

The child in his arms, however, was less enthused:

After going into the half down 46-31, VCU closed the gap to two points midway through the second half, and it appeared fans in Utah’s capital city might be in for another down-to-the wire finish.

By the time cameras spotted this little tyke taking a snooze with 3:37 left to play, however, VCU was down by nine, and the Rams never got closer than six down the stretch. So maybe it was for the best that the kid decided to call it a night early.

St. Mary’s will play the winner of Arizona-North Dakota on Saturday.
