Grand Canyon beats Portland State 82-72 in season opener

PHOENIX (AP) Joshua Braun scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds, and Grand Canyon defeated Portland State 82-72 in a season opener Friday night.

Braun made all 10 of his free throws, and De'Andre Davis all nine of his on his way to 19 points for the Antelopes, who made 33 of 40 from the line. Davis also had six assists. DeWayne Russell added 15 points.

Cameron Forte led the Vikings with 20 points with Bryce White adding 16 and Donivine Stewart 10. The Vikings shot better from the field than the Antelopes but were only 16 of 29 from the free-throw line. Collin Spickerman had 12 rebounds.

Portland State cut a 14-point halftime deficit to 2 points with 7:09 left on De'Sean Parsons' basket. Davis scored 11 points from there as the Antelopes finished the final seven minutes outscoring Portland State 24-17.
