Grand Canyon survives late push to beat Utah Valley 60-59 (Feb 24, 2018)
PHOENIX (AP) Oscar Frayer and Alessandro Lever had 16 points apiece as Grand Canyon managed to survive a late push by Utah Valley 60-59 on Saturday night to give coach Dan Majerle his 100th victory in five years at Grand Canyon.
Frayer had a layup for Grand Canyon's final points and a 60-56 lead with 2:16 remaining. Utah Valley's Brandon Randolph split a pair of free throws and drove for a layup with 42 seconds left for the final score. Randolph brought the ball down after a Grand Canyon miss with 10 seconds left to give the Wolverines a chance for the win but failed to get a shot off before the game ended.
The Antelopes led 29-28 at the break, and sprinted to a 49-39 lead midway in the second half. Randolph converted a 3-point play to start a 12-4 spurt and cut the lead to 53-51 with 6:07 left.
Grand Canyon (19-10, 8-5) trails Utah Valley (20-9, 9-4) by a game in the Western Athletic Conference standings. New Mexico State (24-5, 11-2) remains atop the conference.
Randolph led Utah Valley with 15 points with Conner Toolson adding 14.
