Harris reaches 1,000 career points, UMass Lowell tops BU (Dec 13, 2017)

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) Matt Harris scored 27 points and reached 1,000 career points, and UMass Lowell beat Boston University 87-82 on Wednesday night.

It was coach Pat Duquette's 50th career win.

UML made 10 straight free throws in the final minute to seal it. Max Mahoney sank a baseline jumper to pull BU within 81-77 and UML turned it over in the backcourt. Cedric Hankerson hit a corner 3-pointer to make it 81-80 but Harris made two free throws with 25.5 seconds left. Will Goff missed a corner 3-pointer for BU and Harris added two more free throws for a five-point lead.

Jahad Thomas had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Rinardo Perry added 16 points for UMass Lowell (6-5). Harris is the 41st River Hawk to reach 1,000 points.

Harris scored 13 points in the first half but UML trailed 34-31 at halftime.

Mahoney had a career-high 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for BU (4-5). Hankerson added 20 points.
