Hartford stuns UMBC with second-half comeback (Feb 09, 2017)
BALTIMORE (AP) Jalen Ross had 28 points, J.R. Lynch added 18 and Hartford scored 53 in the second half to overcome a 13-point deficit and beat UMBC 84-77 on Thursday night.
The Hawks (7-19, 2-9 America East) trailed by seven at the 10-minute mark and went on a 20-4 run to lead 73-64 on Ross' layup with 1:59 left.
K.J. Maura's 3-pointer pulled the Retrievers (16-8, 7-4) within 77-73, but Hartford closed it out by making 7 of 8 at the foul line with Lynch hitting all six of his attempts in the final 23 seconds.
Jason Dunne added 12 points and Jack Hobbs had 11 points and nine rebounds for Hartford, which ended a seven-game losing streak.
Maura had a career-high 24 points for UMBC. Will Darley added 22 points, Joe Sherburne scored 11 and Jairus Lyles 10. The Retievers had a three-game win streak snapped.
