Harvard tops Cornell 98-88 in double overtime (Mar 02, 2018)
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) Chris Lewis scored seven of his career-high 29 points in the second overtime while Cornell went without a field goal and Harvard beat the Big Red 98-88 on Friday night to sweep the season series.
Seth Towns and Christian Juzang each scored 20 with Juzang grabbing 11 rebounds and Justin Bassey added 18 for the second-place Crimson (16-12, 11-2 Ivy League), who had already clinched a top-two seed in the league tournament and have one regular-season game remaining.
Towns blocked Matt Morgan's 3-pointer, made a layup and Harvard led 92-88 on Lewis' 3-point play with 1:11 to play in the second overtime. Cornell missed five shots from the field and Lewis and Juzang iced it with two free throws apiece.
Joel Davis' layup with 27 seconds left in the first overtime put Cornell up 87-86 before Towns' free throw tied it. Morgan's free throw tied it at 77 at the end of regulation.
Morgan tied a career-high 34 points with six 3s for the Big Red (11-15, 5-8), who at worst could finish fourth in the standings. Stone Gettings scored 23 points and Steven Julian had 10 with 12 rebounds.
