Haygood lifts Youngstown State past Niagara in OT, 101-97 (Dec 14, 2016)
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) Devin Haygood hit a pair of free throws in overtime to give Youngstown State the lead for good, then put back an offensive rebound to pad the Penguins' lead and secure a 101-97 win over Niagara Wednesday night.
The Purple Eagles held a five-point lead at intermission, but Youngstown State quickly erased the deficit and the lead changed hands multiple times in the second half. Jorden Kaufman gave the Penguins the lead with a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left, but Kahlil Dukes hit a jumper with three seconds left in regulation to get Niagara even and force overtime.
Cameron Morse, who averages 23.4 points per game, scored 27 points on 10-for-21 shooting for Youngstown State (6-6). Morse was 4 of 8 from distance with a half-dozen assists. Francisco Santiago added 18 points.
Shane Gatling scored 24 points to help lead Niagara (3-8), with Dukes adding another 20 points.
