High Point pulls away from NC Wesleyan 93-69

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) John Brown scored a career-high 23 points, Lorenzo Cugini a career-high-tying 15, and High Point beat N.C. Wesleyan College 93-69 on Sunday in the first-ever meeting of the teams.

Adam Weary scored a career-high 14, Ricky Madison 12, and Anthony Lindauer 10 as the Panthers (1-1) outshot their Division III opponents 58 percent to 34 percent. Jorge Perez-Laham had seven assists.

Tarique Thompson hit two layups and High Point led 17-10, but the Battling Bishops (0-1) stayed close, pulling to within 31-27 on Brandon Brown's 3-pointer. Ricky Madison's dunk and free throw in the final 2:12 helped the Panthers to a 42-35 halftime lead.

Cugini and Lindauer each hit 3s and High Point opened the second half with a 19-4 run and led 77-55 after Ricky Madison's two free throws with 6:31 left.

Brown led N.C. Wesleyan with 17 points, including 4 of 6 3-pointers, and Adrian Moore scored 11.
