Hofstra overcomes slow start, beats Mount St. Mary's 79-61
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Justin Wright-Foreman had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Hofstra overcame a slow start Friday night to win its season opener 79-61 over Mount St. Mary's.
The Pride missed their first 12 shots from the field and fell behind 16-1 before Tareq Coburn's jumper with 12:02 left in the first half. Hofstra outscored the Mount 28-12 over the rest of the half to take a 31-28 lead into the break.
Hofstra led the entire second half, pushing to a 46-35 advantage early in the period and building to their largest lead at 69-49 with 6:48 left in the game.
Desure Buie and Eli Pemberton added 18 points each for the Pride and Jacquil Taylor grabbed 10 rebounds to go with six points.
Jalen Gibbs had 21 points, K.J. Scott added 14 and Nana Opoku scored 12 for the Mountaineers (0-2).
