Huggins leads Fresno State in thumping of Alaska-Anchorage

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Braxton Huggins nailed five shots from long distance for 23 points as Fresno State opened the season with a 91-63 thumping of Division II Alaska-Anchorage on Tuesday night.

Coach Justin Hutson made his coaching debut at Fresno State with a victory as the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead. They were up 24-19 midway in the second half. Fresno State went into the break with a 41-32 lead. The Bulldogs led 67-45 with 10:47 remaining in the game.

Fresno State was 12 of 33 from beyond the arc with the Seawolves hitting just 8 of 29.

New Williams scored a career-best 14 points while grabbing a career-high three steals. Deshon Taylor added 11 points while dishing out six assists with four steals.

Niko Bevens led Alaska-Anchorage with 14 points with Tyler Brimhall adding 11 points with 10 rebounds.
