Hunter with 22, Jacksonville St. beats SE Missouri St. 78-60 (Jan 27, 2018)
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) Marlon Hunter scored a career-best 22 points off the bench and Jacksonville State beat Southeast Missouri State 78-60 on Saturday night.
Hunter was 9 of 12 from the field for the Gamecocks (16-7, 7-3 Ohio Valley Conference) who shot 49 percent from the field compared to 38 percent for SE Missouri State and had a 39-26 rebounding edge. Jamall Gregory added 12 points, six assists and three steals, Jason Burnell and Malcolm Drumwright scored 11 points apiece and Christian Cunningham chipped in 10 points with 15 rebounds.
The Gamecocks jumped to a 13-7 start that included 3-pointers by Gregory and Drumwright and a dunk by Burnell and built it into a 39-27 advantage at the break.
Norbertas Giga opened the second half with a 3-pointer and Hunter scored eight points early to help push the Gamecocks' lead to 61-44 and they cruised from there.
Denzel Mahoney scored 17 points to lead the Redhawks (10-13, 4-6). Justin Carpenter added 12.
