Illinois Basketball: Mayan Kiir Needs To Hear the Love From Illini Fans
As the football season hopefully continues to improve, many fans are starting to ease their way into the basketball mindset.
The basketball season is right around the corner and 2016-17 should be a campaign that gets this program back on the right track.
With the Illini being on the cusp of resurgence, they are also focusing on finishing the class of 2017 out strong as well.
Right now, Illinois has Jeremiah Tilmon, Da’Monte Williams, Javon Pickett, and Trent Frazier all set to play for the team next season.
This group alone should have the Illini contending for Big Ten Conference titles and deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. But, there are still a few more big fish out there for John Groce to catch.

Mayan Kiir is one of those big fish and he is visiting this weekend. So now what turned out to be a big weekend for the football team, morphed into a big weekend for the basketball team as well.
During this visit, like many other recruits prior, Kiir will see the campus and what the academic side has to offer. Illinois has a history of developing well-rounded athletes.
Kiir will also see the fanatic side of the Illini as well.
There is no doubt in my mind that Kiir wants to feel the love from whatever program he decides to commit to. The teams that are after him all have great fans that love to watch their team win.
That is why this weekend is important to show Kiir the great atmosphere that Illinois has to offer. The Illini have the best fanbase in all of college sports.
Kiir will likely get a chance to visit the Illinois football game on Saturday. I hope Memorial Stadium is packed as the fans cheer on the Illini to a big win over Purdue.
The type of atmosphere that we had for the North Carolina game is what Kiir needs to experience. That game was rocking and there was electricity through the air.
This weekend is about experiencing the campus for Kiir, but I also think he might be looking for the feeling of appreciation and a family environment.
Kiir would be greatly appreciated as an addition to the Illinois class of 2017. Illinois fans have to show it this weekend because he is an important piece to the future.
