Indiana St. defeats Illinois St. 77-65 after 2nd half rally

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) Brenton Scott scored a career-high 25 points to help Indiana State push past Illinois State 77-65 in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown Saturday afternoon.

Scott drained five of Indiana State's nine 3-pointers as the Sycamores (9-7, 3-1) rallied from 34-28 down at halftime. Devonte Brown scored 15 for Indiana State.

The Redbirds (9-8, 3-1), who led the entire first half, closed to within 63-62 with 5:20 remaining in the game after an 8-1 surge. MiKyle McIntosh led with 20 points, Paris Lee added 18 with five assists and four steals, and DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell 11 points.

Scott scored three consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 26-12 start to the second half for Indiana State, which led 54-46, never trailing again. McIntosh and Lee each scored six points as Illinois State closed to within one point.

But Matt Van Scyoc hit a 3 and the Sycamores closed 11 of 14 from the line.
