Iona takes down Delaware 92-77 for first win of the season
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) A.J. English scored 25 points and dished out 10 assists to lift Iona to its first win of the season, 92-77 over Delaware Friday night.
English was 6-for-13 shooting from the field and made all 10 free-throw attempts. Schadrac Casmir had 16 points as all five starters scored in double figures for Iona (1-2).
Marvin King-Davis led Delaware (1-1) with 16 points, and the Blue Hens also had five starters in double figures.
English reeled off three straight 3-pointers in just a little more than a minute to give Iona a 25-16 lead. It jump-started a 31-19 run that gave the Gaels a 12-point lead at the half. English's 3's and four free throws were part of the run.
The Blue Hens closed the gap to 47-41 in the second half on two free throws by King-Davis' but could get no closer.
