Jackson leads UMBC past Maine 67-66

BANGOR, Maine (AP) — KJ Jackson scored 22 points as Maryland-Baltimore County narrowly beat Maine 67-66 on Sunday. Joe Sherburne added 21 points for the Retrievers. Sherburne also had nine rebounds for the Retrievers.

Maine's Dennis Ashley hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to make it 67-64. A steal and layup by Vincent Eze cut the lead to a point with 1.4 seconds remaining but the Retrievers were able to inbound the ball to end the game.

Ricky Council II had 14 points for Maryland-Baltimore County (15-10, 7-3 America East Conference). R.J. Eytle-Rock added six rebounds.

Isaiah White had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Black Bears (5-20, 3-7). Andrew Fleming added 15 points and eight rebounds. Sergio El Darwich had 11 points and 10 assists.

The Retrievers improve to 2-0 against the Black Bears for the season. Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Maine 61-52 on Jan. 5. Maryland-Baltimore County takes on Binghamton on the road on Wednesday. Maine matches up against Hartford on the road on Wednesday.
