The Montana State women's basketball program announced the addition of John Stockton, the Hall of Fame point guard, as the team's newest assistant coach on Tuesday morning.

His daughter, Lindsay, is a senior guard.

"Coach [Tricia] Binford called and took a flier asking if I'd be interested," Stockton said in a statement. "I'm excited about the prospect of working with the kids. I've enjoyed watching the team over the past three years. I had a chance to be around them and develop relationships during their trip to the Bahamas this spring. It will be a fun group to work with."

Stockton, who played 19 years in the Utah Jazz, is the NBA's all-time leader in assists and steals. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Stockton had previously coached his daughter and two other members of the team at the high school and AAU levels.

The Bobcats open the season on Nov. 13 against Seattle University.
