Kansas Basketball: Coaching staff visits guard prospects
The Kansas basketball coaching staff has been out visiting some potential prospects at the guard positions.
Even though the 2016-2017 season hasn’t started, the Kansas basketball coaching staff is on the recruiting trail for the class of 2017. After missing out on top target DeAndre Ayton, head coach Bill Self and his assistants are turning to guards for the time being.
Coaches Self and Norm Roberts are conducting in-home visits with point guard targets Trae Young of Oklahoma and Collin Sexton of Georgia.
Young has long been the Kansas staff’s top priority at guard, watching every minute of Young during the summer circuit. A lanky scorer, Young is ranked 19th overall, and the number 3 point guard in the 247 Composite. In addition to the in-home visit, Young will visit Kansas on October 21st. Along with Kansas, Kentucky and hometown school Oklahoma are thought to be the leaders in Young’s recruitment.
Collin Sexton is a more recent addition to the list of players Kansas is targeting, after having a great summer. Sexton is an athletic combo guard with a knack for scoring. Sexton is the 7th ranked player in the 247 Composite, and the 2nd ranked point guard.
Sexton is from Georgia, and it will be difficult for Kansas to get Sexton to leave the region. Alabama is thought to be the leader, but Kansas has a chance. Sexton is taking an official visit to Lawrence for Late Night in the Phog on September 30th.
Self and assistant coach Jerrance Howard will also visit Kansas commit, combo guard Marcus Garrett on September 15th. Garrett just officially visited Kansas this past weekend. Through the Phog previously wrote about Garrett’s commitment, which can be found here.
