Kansas F Cheick Diallo allowed to travel to Maui, still not cleared
On Friday, Kansas announced that freshman forward Cheick Diallo will be allowed to travel with the team to the Maui Invitational. However, he is still not cleared by the NCAA.
Diallo, a 6-foot-9 forward originally from Mali, has missed the first two games of the season as the NCAA reviews his transcript. Diallo's high school, Our Savior of New American in Centereach, New York is under NCAA investigation. Former teammate Damon Wilson, now a freshman at Pitt, was cleared to play in September. St. John's forward Kassoum Yakwe, another OSNA teammate, is still waiting for a ruling.
Diallo, the MVP at the McDonald's All American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, committed to Kansas in April. In late August, reports surfaced that he had still not been cleared to play despite earning six credits during summer courses. He is currently allowed to practice with the team.
Kansas is 1-1 on the year and face Chaminade in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday. With the Hoosiers on the opposite side of the bracket, this could come down to a Kansas-Indiana final.
