Kansas State Missed Opportunity In OT loss to TCU

The Kansas State Wildcats lost a pair of difficult road games last week. Playing at home didn’t help on Wednesday night in an 86-80 loss to TCU in overtime.

I felt great when the Kansas State got the ball into the paint the first two times down the court.

D.J. Johnson got the Wildcats off to a great start. He had 5 points early and 13 in the first half.

Despite that, the Bruce Weber’s team suffered a slow start for the third straight game. TCU had a 13-2 advantage on points off turnovers early in the first half.

The ‘Cats trailed 20-9 at one point and 29-15 but woke up.
A Barry Brown three-pointer ignited a 19-2 run over a 5-plus minute period and the ‘Cats took a 39 -35 lead into the half.

Both teams started the second half slow. The Wildcats went for almost 5 minutes without a basket. The good news, the Frogs weren’t scoring either.

Kansas State had chances to put the game away but TCU would not quit.

The Frogs forced 21 Wildcat turnovers.

The Wildcats had the lead with under a minute to play. They missed too many free throws down the stretch.

They started 19 of 21 from the free throw line. They finished 21 of 28 at the charity stripe.

TCU outscored Kansas State 38-34 in the second half to force overtime.

Three Wildcat bigs had 4 fouls going into the extra period. TCU outscored the ‘Cats 13-7 in the extra 5 minutes.

Despite the loss, freshman Xavier Sneed had a career high 19-points including 4-4 from the field and he was perfect from beyond the arc.

He’ll need to shoot well from three-point land again on Saturday when the Wildcats play against the Baylor zone.
