Kentucky fans taunt Ben Simmons with 'GPA' chants
On Saturday morning, ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman asked LSU head coach Johnny Jones why Ben Simmons wasn't being considered for the Wooden Award. Jones told Goodman that he believed Simmons wasn't certified by the school because he "didn't meet all of the requirements."LSU spokesperson Kent Lowe later confirmed that Simmons "did not have the necessary criteria to be eligible."
Because one of the criteria is a minimum 2.0 GPA -- and also because Simmons is outstanding on the court so what else could it be-- this was taken to mean that the LSU freshman was underperforming in the classroom.
Obviously, Kentucky fans ran with that when the Tigers traveled to Lexington Saturday afternoon. They lobbed "GPA" chants at Simmons when he went to the free-throw line during the first half.
Cold world.
LSU wound up losing 94-77, but it should be noted, however, that Simmons made both of those free throws.
