Kentucky's Alex Poythress out for 'about two weeks'
Putting a damper on Kentucky's 82-48 rout of Georgia on Tuesday night was news that senior forward Alex Poythress is will miss more time.
The 6-foot-8 Poythress has missed the past two games -- both wins -- with a right knee injury. According to Kyle Tucker of the Courier-Journal, Kentucky head coach John Calipari said Poythress is expected to be out "two more weeks" with the injury.
Poythress experienced soreness and swelling in the knee, which is not the same one in which he tore his ACL last December, before Saturday’s game against Florida. X-rays revealed nothing, Calipari said, but he wouldn’t comment on a report from Kentucky Sports Radio’s Ryan Lemond that Poythress had a “minor procedure” to fix the unspecified problem.
Poythress is averaging 10.0 and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Wildcats, who check in at No. 22 in the latest Associated Press poll.
According to the timetable, the Wildcats will go into games at South Carolina and No. 15 Texas A&M without the most experienced member of the team.
South Carolina hosts Kentucky on Saturday at noon.
