KU Target Chaundee Brown Cuts List to Three

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

In an unexpected move, top Kansas recruiting target Chaundee Brown cut his list from four to three on Sunday evening, to Kansas, Wake Forest, and Florida. In addition to trimming his list of schools, Brown also moved his visit to Wake Forest to October 1, from October 14th.  Florida remains in contention, but has yet to schedule an official visit. Brown is a priority for head coach Bill Self and the staff, especially with top target Michael Porter, Jr. committed to Washington.

The 6’5″ Brown’s recruitment has accelerated with his ascent up the rankings. To the staff’s credit, they were recruiting Brown early, as he was one of the few non-senior visitors to Late Night in the Phog in 2015. However, they did not make him a priority, instead focusing most of their resources on wing Michael Porter, Jr., who committed to Washington, following his father and godfather, head coach Lorenzo Romar. The staff that did make Brown a their main priority, was former Kansas great and current Wake Forest head coach, Danny Manning and his assistants.

Even though Florida is still officially on Brown’s list, Kansas and Wake Forest appear to be the leaders for Brown’s services. Kansas hosted Brown and 2017 commit Marcus Garrett on September 2nd, and the visit went extraordinarily well for both. Additionally, the Kansas staff conducted an in-home visit with Brown on September 9th. Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning also led a visit that day. Brown has long been enamored with Kansas, but is likely to take at least three visits.

The major news is that Brown will no longer visit or consider Maryland, and has rescheduled his visit to Wake Forest. Instead of October 14th-16th, Brown will visit Winston Salem on the first of the month. If Brown does not commit to Wake Forest shortly after his visit, look for Kansas to acquire his services. From what Through the Phog has heard, Brown’s decision will come down to committing to a blue blood (Kansas), or the program that has been loyal to him the longest (Wake Forest). Fans of both schools should look for a decision in the early signing period for the top 40 wing prospect. We project a tossup between Kansas and Wake Forest, as of now.
