Lamar gets fast start, tops Texas-Rio Grande Valley, 83-60

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Nick Garth came off the bench and knocked down 4 of his 5 3-point shots in the first half to spark Lamar to an 83-60 win over Texas-Rio Grande Wednesday night.

Garth was 5 of 7 shooting beyond the arc and finished with 21 points and the Cardinals got 45 of their points off the bench to even their record at 3-3 and snap a two-game losing skid.

Garth's long-range shooting reversed a trend of slow starts, staking Lamar to a 40-20 lead late in the first half. The Cardinals held a 43-22 advantage at intermission.

Dorian Chatman and Dontavious Sears scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, and Sears grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.

J.J. Thompson scored 21 points to lead the Vaqueros (2-4), with Shaquille Hines adding another 16.
