Lipscomb gets hot in 2nd half, beats Stetson 82-73 (Feb 15, 2018)
DELAND, Fla. (AP) Garrison Mathews had 17 points as Lipscomb got hot in the second half to beat Stetson 82-73 to win its third straight in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Thursday night.
Lipscomb (18-9, 8-4) scorched the nets in the second half, knocking down 70 percent from the floor for most of that period, pushed its 36-33 halftime advantage to 58-47 with 10:58 left. Stetson battled back to close to 70-65 with 3:21 remaining. Michael Buckland, Aaron Korn and Kenny Cooper made eight free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
On Saturday the Bison will face league-leading Florida Gulf Coast (20-9, 11-1) which lost to Kennesaw State 97-93 on Thursday night to halt a 13-game win streak.
Lipscomb finished hitting 27-of-50 from the floor while limiting the Hatters to 27-of-68 shooting. Lipscomb made ten more free throws.
Eli Pepper and Cooper added 13 points apiece and Rob Marberry contributed 10 for the Bisons, who have won seven of their last eight games.
Christiaan Jones had 21 points with Divine Myles adding 18 for Stetson (11-18, 3-9).
