Lofton lifts Texas Southern past Prairie View A&M, 74-61 (Feb 04, 2017)
HOUSTON (AP) Zach Lofton poured in 21 points off the bench and Texas Southern finished off a regular-season sweep of Prairie View A&M with a flourish, earning a 74-61 win Saturday night.
Ja'Donta Blakeley's jumper with 3:45 left got the Panthers within three points, 59-56, but Lofton answered with a 3-pointer and Marvin Jones dunked and the Tigers closed the game out on a 15-5 run.
The Tigers now have won nine of their last 10 games and three straight after suffering their lone Southwestern Conference loss to Mississippi Valley State. Texas Southern (13-10, 9-1) maintained its two-game lead over Alcorn State atop the SWAC standings.
Kevin Scott scored 17 points and Demontrae Jefferson added 16 for the Tigers, who shot 25 of 54 from the field (46.3 percent), but just 1 of 10 from long range.
Troy Thompson scored 21 points to lead the Panthers (8-16, 5-5).
