Louisiana-Lafayette surges past New Orleans for 76-71 win (Dec 17, 2016)
NEW ORLEANS (AP) Jay Wright scored 27 points, including the go-ahead basket with 1:05 remaining then added 3 of 4 foul shots as Louisiana-Lafayette battled past New Orleans 76-71 on Saturday.
Freshman Justin Miller added 11 points and Frank Bartley IV 10 for Louisiana-Lafayette (9-3), which closed on an 8-0 run, while Bryce Washington added 14 rebounds. The Ragin' Cajuns owned a 44-33 advantage on the boards.
Erik Thomas led New Orleans (4-5) with 19 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season and third in a row. Tevin Broyles and Nate Frye scored 11 points each for the Privateers, who dropped their first home game this season. UNO opened the second half on an 11-4 run after trailing 34-31 at halftime and led 66-59 after a 16-3 run when Louisiana-Lafayette went cold, missing 6 of 7 shots. The Ragin' Cajuns shot 38.5 percent and made just 6 of 25 3-pointers.
