LUI Brooklyn cruises past Central Connecticut 84-71
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Raiquan Clark finished with 21 points, six rebounds and three steals and reserve Raul Frias contributed 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals to propel LIU Brooklyn to an 84-71 victory over Central Connecticut on Saturday.
Clark knocked down 9 of 14 shots to help the Blackbirds (10-10, 4-4 Northeast Conference) shoot 48 percent from the floor. Frias sank 6 of 11 shots and made four of LIU Brooklyn's eight 3-pointers. Julius van Sauers had 12 points and Tyrn Flowers scored 11, but made just 3 of 11 shots from beyond the arc as the Blackbirds shot 31 percent from deep. Jashaun Agosto pitched in with 11 points and seven assists as LIU Brooklyn beat the Blue Devils for the eighth time in the last 11 meetings.
Flowers opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and the Blackbirds never looked back. Eral Penn's layup in the final minute sent LIU Brooklyn into intermission with a 52-32 lead. The lead remained in double figures throughout the second half.
Joe Hugley led the Blue Demons (8-13, 2-6) with 16 points off the bench. Tyler Kohl, who has picked up four NEC player of the week awards this season, scored 15 and added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
