Man with potential $50,000 bracket forgot to pick a championship winner
If you're lucky enough to have selected the right combinations of upsets in what has been a wild NCAA tournament, you may be in line to win a ton of money from one of the several bracket challenges on major sites.
Yahoo! is offering $50,000 to the overall winner winner of its Tourney Pick'em, but one Syracuse man who currently has one of the the best brackets out of more than 500,000 entries cost himself a chance of winning the prize by forgetting to select a winner in the national championship game.
James Kiki didn't pick every upset - he missed on Yale, Middle Tennessee State and Stephen F. Austin - but he's selected 48 winners and was nearly perfect in the South and West regions. His Final Four remained intact (you can see his full bracket here), but after selecting Villanova and North Carolina to advance to the title game, Kiki forgot to pick the final game. He told Syracuse.com that he'd never previously filled out a bracket and entered the Yahoo! contest on a whim.
Via Syracuse.com:
Kiki said he meant to select Villanova as the national champion. The other two entries tied for first, "My Bold Bracket" and "Test Bracket," have Oklahoma beating North Carolina in the final. Should the Wildcats prevail over the Tar Heels in Houston, Kiki would have won had he locked in his pick.
Unsurprisingly, this isn't the first time a missing pick has ruined an otherwise outstanding bracket. Two years ago, another Yahoo! user was in line to win $100,000 but forgot to pick a title winner.
