Melo Trimble is already earning praise on the college basketball circuit.

On Tuesday evening, Trimble was named to the All-Big Ten Preseason Team for the 2016-17 season.

Seven different programs were represented among the 10 players that made the team. Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes was named as the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year.

Wisconsin had three players make the team in Ethan Happ, Hayes, and Bronson Koenig. Indiana had James Blackmon Jr. and Thomas Bryant make the cut a season after the Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season title.

Trimble is coming off a season in which he averaged 14.8 points and 5.0 assists. He is also one of only two Terrapins (Joe Smith) to post 500 points in each of their first two seasons in College Park.

The former Bishop O’Connell (Va.) standout also was elected as an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American.

A majority of Trimble’s numbers took a dip during his sophomore campaign.

His points and rebounds saw a decline in addition to the amount of times he got to the free throw line. Trimble also struggled throughout a large portion of Big Ten play.

Even still, Trimble put his name in the NBA Draft pool, but didn’t hire an agent. He kept his name in the pool as long as he could in order to obtain feedback of where he could end up.

Trimble was pegged as an early second round pick, so he decided to return to College Park.

The Terps guard is certainly going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder this coming season. With another year similar to his freshman campaign, Trimble will definitely be back to being one of the premier players in all of college basketball.
