The Miami Hurricanes are set to play Wofford at American Airlines Arena in the Hoophall Miami Invitational on Saturday at 5:30pm.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 73-61 victory over Rutgers in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge Wednesday night at the Watsco Center. It was Miami’s third straight win the Challenge and fourth win in their last five appearances.
Jim Larranga started his third lineup of the season in Wednesday’s win over Rutgers. Freshman Dewan Huell had his first start and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
It was also the first time that Huell and fellow five star freshman Bruce Brown started together this season. Brown finished with 11 points and led the ‘Canes with nine rebounds from his two guard spot. Davon Reed led Miami with 18 points against Rutgers.
The Hoophall Invitational is a pair of doubleheaders that will take place December 3 and 10 at the AAA put on by the Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Fame. This will be Miami and Wofford’s third meeting. The Hurricanes won the first two in 2004 and 2005.
The Terriers are coming off a 15-17 season, but appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and ’15. They also appeared in the 2010 and ’11 NCAA Tournaments. The Terriers are 2-5 this season with wins over Non-Division I programs Allen and Mars Hill. Their five losses were to Division I teams and include a 91-69 loss at LSU and a 75-60 loss to Colorado.
They also played in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Fort Myers the week of Thanksgiving. Ther Terrriers lost to Vermont, Bradley and Kent State by a total of 16 points.
Wofford is led by guard Fletcher Magee. He averages 14.6 points per game and shoots 39.2 percent on threes and 80 percent from the free throw line. They are also 57th in free throwing shooting at 74.4 percent. They are just 285th in free throw attempts per game.
The Terriers run a very efficient offense. They rank 67th in the country in assists and sixth in three point shooting. Seven players shoot at least 36.4 percent on three point attempts. They rank 195th or lower in most team statistics.
