Michigan State Basketball: Ben Carter out with another knee injury

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Michigan State basketball big man Ben Carter, a UNLV transfer, has re-injured his knee and requires surgery.

When it rains, it pours. Michigan State basketball is taking after the football team and suffering major injuries. The football team has lost senior captain Riley Bullough and junior star Jon Reschke and now the basketball team is down senior UNLV-transfer Ben Carter after a knee injury.

According to a press release from Michigan State, Carter will need surgery on his knee after going up to contest a shot and coming down. Little things like that can surely aggravate a knee and cause an ACL injury. One of the most devastating non-contact injuries out there.

Carter had suffered an ACL injury during his junior season with UNLV and had to miss the second half of the year. He was rehabbing his knee all summer long and then this happens. It’s unsure whether it’s an ACL injury again, or not, but there’s damage in his knee which requires surgery and will keep him out “an extended period of time.”

This is a tough blow for a Michigan State team already struggling to field a roster with big men. Carter was sought after following the departure of Deyonta Davis and now there are just a few bigs on the roster. Nick Ward, Kenny Goins, Gavin Schilling and Miles Bridges will now be in charge of post duties.

Michigan State can’t catch any breaks these days on the basketball court or on the gridiron. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the new Spartan.
