Michigan State Recruiting: 5-star SG Gary Trent Jr. taking official Saturday

Michigan State recruiting is getting a big official visit from five-star shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. this weekend.

This is a big weekend for Michigan State recruiting. Not only could beating Michigan advance football recruiting, but the basketball side of things could benefit greatly as well. In fact, five-star 2017 shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. will be on campus this weekend for the big rivalry game.

Normally this would seem like just a regular official visit before making his decision to join Duke, but it has become much more important. First off, it’s Trent’s last official before he decides and second, the fact that he didn’t commit on his visit to Duke is pretty big.

That shows that the door might still be open to sway him to become a Spartan. For the Spartans, five-star 2017 big man commit Jaren Jackson Jr. will be accompanying Trent Jr. in East Lansing.

Just like the 2016 class, the current members of 2017 could help the Spartans grow the group of elite players. Josh Langford was already committed last year, along with Nick Ward, when Cassius Winston and Miles Bridges joined them on a visit for the Oregon game. They all became great friends and, eventually, teammates.

Duke, UCLA and Michigan State are his three finalists and each would be lucky to snag the No. 11 overall player in the 2017 class and second-best shooting guard, according to 247Sports.

Jackson Jr. will be responsible for putting in a heck of a recruiting pitch this weekend.
