Middle Tennessee beats Charlotte 73-72 with late free throw

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Giddy Potts scored a career-high 29 points and Reggie Upshaw made a free throw to break a tie with five seconds remaining to give Middle Tennessee a 73-72 victory over Charlotte on Thursday night.

Charlotte (4-12, 1-3 Conference USA) scored four straight points to take a 71-69 lead but Darnell Harris made a 3-pointer with 49 seconds left. Curran Scott made 1 of 2 free throws to tie with 31 seconds remaining before Upshaw's game-winner.

Harris finished with 12 points and Upshaw 13 rebounds with his seven points for Middle Tennessee, which outrebounded Charlotte 42-28.

Joseph Uchebo had 11 points and 18 rebounds for Charlotte, his fifth double-double this season. Braxton Ogbueze scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers as the 49ers tied their season high with 11 treys. Scott added 16 points, Jon Davis 13 and Andrien White 10.
