Mockevicius scores 20 points, Evansville tops Marian, 84-59
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) Eqidijus Mockevicius scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help power Evansville past NAIA Marion (Indiana), 84-59 Tuesday night.
Mockevicius, the current Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, scored his 1,000 career point in the game by converting 9 of his 10 shots from the field and going 2 for 2 from the free-throw line.
The Purple Aces (2-0) built a 13-point lead in the first half and padded it in the second.
D.J. Balentine scored 17 points and dished off seven assists for Evansville, and Jaylon Brown added 13 points.
Dion Smith and Wesley Stowers scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Knights, who shot 19 of 55 from the field (34.5 percent) and 7 of 25 (28 percent) from long range.
The Purple Aces face Belmont, which knocked off Marquette on opening weekend, Saturday.
