Monmouth starter unfortunately becomes newest member of bench mob

The Monmouth bench mob unfortunately gained a new member of Saturday afternoon.

According to Josh Newman of the Ashbury Park Press, junior guard Je'lon Hornbeak, who has started 12 of 13 games for the Hawks, has been suspended indefinitely by head coach King Rice.

The 6-foot-3 Hornbeak was averaging 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his first season with Monmouth. He originally began his career at Oklahoma, but transferred to Monmouth in 2014, and sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.

The suspension bookends a tough week for the Hawks. A 91-84 loss at Army on Monday has drastically impacted their hopes for an at-large bid. More likely than not, Monmouth will have to win the MAAC Tournament title in order to get into the NCAA Tournament.

Monmouth currently has a 1-1 conference record heading into Monday's matchup with Canisius, the same team that defeated the Hawks back on Dec. 4.
